A
native of Natchez, Mississippi, Dr. David J. Jewell
offers over twenty years of experience in radiology.
A member of the Clinical Magnetic Resonance Society,
Dr. Jewell is trained in all aspects of diagnostic radiology
and focuses his primary attention on interpretation
of MRI scanning. This complicated subspecialty of radiology
requires both extensive experience and ongoing continuing
medical education to remain current.
Dr Jewell attended Louisiana State University in Baton
Rouge for his undergraduate education and received his
medical education and medical degree from Louisiana
State University Medical Center in New Orleans (1983).
After completing a Rotating Internship at Earl K. Long
Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (1984), Dr Jewell
was accepted into the Diagnostic Radiology program at
Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana which he
completed in 1987. He was awarded Board Certification
by the American College of Radiology in 1987 and was
accepted for a Body Imaging Fellowship by the Louisiana
State University School of Medicine in New Orleans that
same year. During his Fellowship year, Dr Jewell was
appointed to the LSUMC staff as a Clinical Assistant
Professor of Radiology and maintained that title until
1996. In this position his responsibilities included
training radiology residents and medical students.
Upon
completion of his Body Imaging Fellowship, Dr. Jewell
worked for two years at an extremely busy outpatient
imaging center in Baton Rouge, LA and received extensive
experience in the interpretation of MRI. Drawing on
these experiences, Dr. Jewell started his own radiology
group in Lafayette, Louisiana where he practiced for
fourteen years, and also began and operated for seven
years a second radiology practice in Plaquemine, Louisiana.
In both Lafayette and Plaquemine, Dr Jewell was responsible
for the initiation of MRI services and served as Director
of Radiology. From 1990 to 1997 Dr. Jewell also held
an appointment as Clinical Instructor of Radiology
at University Medical Center in Lafayette. Desiring
to concentrate on his main interest, MRI interpretation,
Dr Jewell left his hospital practice to open an MRI
center in 2003 where he continues to practice.
